RCMAS - Registered Clinical Medical Assistant Specialist

Registered Clinical Medical Assistant Specialist is a valuable member of any professional medical patient care team. RCMAS is trained in the art of Phlebotomy, EKG/ECG, and Medical procedures. Nevertheless, duties are not limited to record keeping, scheduling, confirming, and cancelling appointments, making injections (IM, sub, ID), taking vital signs, (B/P,T,P, R), measuring weight and height, manual or automated U/A, performing visual acuity test, audiometry, BLS (Adults, Children, and Infants), AED, First Aid, OSHA, CDC, CLSI, ethics. However, laws and protocols may differ from state to state as set protocols are not nationally defined yet.

Registered Clinical Medical Assistant Specialist certificate defines a professional who successfully completed two parts of NCMA competency exam. Both science and clinical assessments are aimed at ensuring that the Clinical Medical Assistant has the theoretical and practical/clinical knowledge that is required to be an exemplary/competent healthcare professional, even as a recent graduate.

However, duties that may vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner's specialty. Specifically, clinical duties of a Clinical Medical Assistant may vary according to state law.

*Note: Any educator that wishes to teach in any of our validated academic institution must challenge the given feild exam 

NCMA Suggested Clinical Medical Assistant Curriculum

Total Amount of Hours: 1,446 hours
Phlebotomy (620 hrs.), EKG (400 hrs.) and Medical Procedures
(426 hrs.)

Clinical Externship: 334 hours

      • Phlebotomy-160 hours
      • EKG- 64 hours
      • Medical Procedures- 90 hours
      • Basic Office Policies, Procedures, and Systems- 20 Hours 

Clinical Medical Procedures ONLY: 426 hours
336 hours of basic science and in lab practice
90 hours as an intern/externship in either/or physician's office, hospital unit

  • BLS
  • Electrical Therapy (AED)
  • First Aid
  • Intro to PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Intro to ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Injection & Vaccine
  • Urine Analysis
  • Audio Gram
  • Vital Signs
  • Visual Acuity Test
  • IV intravenous
  • Sutures
  • Pulmonary Functioning Test
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Asthma Therapy
  • Patient Records
  • HIPAA

RCMAS knowledge and skills will be evaluated in a two part exam :

  • Theory
  • Clinical Competencies

In site school lab clinical practice focusing on:

  • 50 B/P “Aerobic” Non Automated
  • 50 Radial pulse
  • 50 Respiration
  • 20 SPO2
  • 20 IM injection on stimulated Manikins’
  • 20 ID injection on stimulated Manikins’
  • 10 Audiometric tests
  • 10 Urine Analysis by reagent strip.
  • 5 Pregnancy test Urine
  • 5 Pregnancy Test Serum
  • Must have proved of hands-on practice in the following:
  • 25 Venipuncture successful sticks on an artificial simulated arm.
  • 25 Venipuncture successful sticks on an artificial simulation hand.
  • 10 Live Capillary puncture
  • 10 Live Venipuncture draw “Supervised” by a registered educator or clinical lab supervisor.

 

Must have proved of hands-on practice in the following:

  • Perform and mount 30 ECG/EKG having the patient in a supine position.
  • 10 ECG/EKG on a patient in a semi fowler position.
  • Mount and provide Basic ECG/EKG calculation
  • HR
  • PRI
  • QRS complex duration
  • ST segment
  • QT interval

 

Basic knowledge of at least 2 diff ECG/EKG machine properties.

  • One ECG machine must do interpretation
  • One ECG machine can do interpretation

Must complete full training in CPR/BLS, AED, First Aid--Adult /Infant either through American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Must provide a copy of the cards.
